Our Flagship Brand is Dexter, named after Edmund Dexter,
who was the “Johnnie Walker” of American Whiskey in the 1800’s.
The Dexter Bourbon Company returns Bourbon to it’s roots in the 1800s when Bourbon was crafted by Barrel Blenders. It is among the world’s experts on the most important element when it comes to crafting world-class bourbon through the artistry of wood finishing. The team focuses on managing the interaction of wood, bourbon, heating, and cooling as it is responsible for 70% of the flavor and 100% of the color of world-class bourbon.

Edmund Dexter
1800’s Bourbon Blender
Dexter is named after Cincinnati Bourbon Legend Edmund Dexter. His bourbon barrel blending shop was famous around the world in the mid-1800s just as Johnnie Walker’s was in Scotland. Edmund Dexter was so famous that author Charles Dickens and the Prince of Wales (Future King Edwards VII of England) visited Dexter at his home on Fourth Street.
In Edmond’s honor, we offer DEXTER Three Wood Straight Bourbon, finished with 200 Year Oak, Maple Wood and Cherry Wood.
The Dexter Bourbon Company was founded by Doug Hall & Joe Girgash. It is a luxury division of Brain Brew Distillery. The Brain Brew Distillery, which creates Dexter Bourbon, is located at 3849 Edwards Road in Newtown, Ohio, 45244. It is just east of Cincinnati and 7 miles north of Kentucky.

Celebrating the Artistry of Wood
Straight Bourbon Whiskey Finished
with 200 Year Oak, Cherry Wood & Maple Wood
Dexter Three Wood has an unmatched richness of flavor that comes from the artistic combination of heritage 200+ Year Oak, Cherry Wood, and Maple Wood. The result is a level of luxury complexity that is evocative of the bourbon crafted by the legendary Edmund Dexter in the 1800’s when bourbon was born.
What makes Dexter Three Wood Bourbon meaningfully unique is that it is the only whiskey in the world that is finished with air-dried 200 Year Oak.
200+ Year Oak is sourced from reclaimed wood from old barns built using trees from old-growth forests. This vintage American wood has a unique depth of character as the growth rings of old-growth oak trees are tighter resulting in a flavor complexity that is unmatched. For even more layers of flavor, Dexter Three wood is also finished with air-dried Cherry Wood and Maple Wood.
Connoisseurs such as F. Paul Pacult have celebrated the artistry of Dexter Three Wood Bourbon – giving it 95 Points – his highest recommendation in the Ultimate Spirits competition.

Author Charles Dickens was very impressed with his visit to Cincinnati with Edmund Dexter. He wrote, “Cincinnati is a beautiful city, cheerful, thriving, and animated. I have not often seen a place that commends itself so favorably and pleasantly to a stranger at the first glance as this does.”
Our favorite way to drink Dexter is over ice. However, the Charles Dickens Bourbon Smash that he described to his fellow author Washington Irving, is also amazing. Here’s a contemporary version of it.
